6 unconscious and 2 lifeless bodies recovered - Police

2 persons were found dead and 6 unconscious under strange circumstances at a popular brothel known as 50-50 Bar, situated at Uyo Street in Umuahia, Abia State capital on Wednesday morning, September 28th. 6 others, including the manager of the popular brothel known as 50-50 Bar were discovered unconscious and taken to the nearby hospital where they are battling for their lives.

The brothel (50-50 Bar) is said to be home to over fifty sex workers.

Abia State Police (Public Relations Officer), ASP Nta Ogbonaya Nta, who confirmed the incident said that bodies of the victims had been taken to an undisclosed hospital in Umuahia, Abia State.

He said the dead persons were a man and a woman while the 6 peoples found unconscious were all male, adding that the cause of the deaths was yet to be determined.

"We recovered 2 lifeless and 6 unconscious bodies from the building which we took to the hospital. Only the doctor can confirm them dead" he said.

The State Police Commissioner, Mr. Leye Oyebade, had already visited the scene of the incident and ordered an investigation, while the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Central Police Station, Umuahia, Abia State Mr. Onyeke Udeviotu, led a team of police men to cordon off the area.

ASP Nta Ogbonaya Nta said the brothel (50-50 Bar) had been empty by the time the police arrived, following the alarm raised by people but he said that the police would question the owner of the brothel (50-50 Bar). The owner of the storey building housing the brothel (question) was said to have relocated from Port Harcourt to Umuahia after buying and renovating the property.

Residents of Uyo Street claimed that the deceased were victims of “supernatural forces”, as the distracted sex workers were heard shouting “ghost!!!” around 8 a.m. yesterday while running from the premises.
