Running of any business cannot be done without the setting of realistic goals; they help your company to achieve success and move forward. However, there are mistakes you can make when setting these targets. Here are some of the common small business goal setting mistakes and how they can harm your progress.
NOT SETTING DEADLINE

If you give yourself deadline for your targets then you are much more likely to achieve those targets. If you do not have a deadline, then you are more likely to take too much time getting to where you want to be, and by the time you get there your targets may have changed. Always remember to hive yourself a deadline that will push you forward to complete your goal, but also a deadline that is achievable.

NOT BEING CLEAR ABOUT WHAT YOU WHAT

One of the biggest problems is when you are setting your goals is being u sure about what you really want to happen. The clearer you can be about what you want, the easier it will be achieve your goal. Pictures exactly what you want, and how it will change your current situation. Clear goals may also improved by our motivation, because you can see exactly what you want and try to achieve them.

Another part of this problem is that you maybe so lost in achieving your dream, that you don't even know when you have achieved it. You need to lay down some clear measures that will let you know when you have achieved your goal. You should decide what the success will look and feel like, otherwise you will not gain satisfaction from the work you have put in.  Make sure your target is measurable in some way, and then keep an eye on your progress.

NOT CONSIDERING THE VARIABLE

When setting a target, it is very necessary to think about how much of it you are able to control. Although a target may be achievable, whether it is achieve might not be in your hands. If you can recognize which parts of your small business target are out of your control, then you can design better strategies to cope with this.

NOT SEEING THE POSSIBLE EFFECTS

Although you might feel that a certain target is right for you, it may be that you have not examined the effect that achieving this target will have on other aspects of your life, such as relationships. If you are trying to achieve a target and are failing, it may be because it is negative in impact on other areas of your life. Always try to love at the effect a certain target might have on your relationships and then you will know if a target is right for you or nor.

HAVING A NEGATIVE GOAL

The most common mistake is phrasing your target in a negative way. Although this might seem like what you want, these negative targets are very hard to maintain and achieve. For instance, if you say 'I want to get rid of my debts'. This goal is negative and describes something that you want to get away from you. The problem with this is that when you have set such goals, our mind instinctively focuses items related to that goal. This means that you will end up focusing on the very thing you want to get away from, which can be counter productive and stressful. You should try to change the wording of the goal to reflect something that you want to achieve. Instead of 'I want to get rid of my debt', say 'I want to be earning much money before the end of the year'.
